Progressive wave builds momentum with new candidates in Wisconsin

Feb. 11, 2021- Ayomi Obuseh is proud to receive the endorsement of Run for Something (RFS), the groundbreaking organization that recruits and supports strong voices in the next generation of progressive leadership.

“Now is the time to run for office, be engaged, and be unapologetically black. It takes one fearless step to change your community, state and country. If we don’t run with something, who will?” (Ayomi Obuseh)

“Our newest class of endorsements bring a unique and valuable perspective to their respective communities, each committed to effecting long-overdue, necessary and progressive change within their community” said RFS co-founder Amanda Litman. “We have the White House and Congress, which certainly matters, but the real challenge is to build sustainable progressive strongholds in our state and local electorates.”

Here’s a quick breakdown of Run for Something’s February endorsement class!

  • In February, they endorsed 42 amazing candidates — 33 new candidates and 9 alumni.
  • The new class of endorsees are running in Alabama, California, Illinois, Massachusetts, Missouri, New Jersey, New York, Oklahoma, Pennsylvania, Texas, Virginia, Washington, and Wisconsin
  • Of those candidates: 56% are women, 51% are BIPOC, and 28% are LGBTQIA+.

The endorsement process includes an extensive internal review with background check, staff interview and insight from local state experts.

Amanda Litman and Ross Morales Rocketto launched RFS on Jan. 20, 2017 with a simple premise: help young diverse progressives to run for down-ballot races in order to build a bench for the future. RFS aims to lower the barriers to entry for these candidates by helping them with seeding money, organization building, and access to the trainings needed to be successful. So far, over 70,000 young people from across the country have signed up to run and gained access to RFS resources.
